Evidence for a Highly Ionized Iron Emission Line in the Quasar PG 1116+215
Abstract
We present an ASCA spectrum of the radio-quiet quasar PG 1116+215 (z = 0.177), which shows evidence for line emission around the iron K-shell complex in the rest frame of the source. Such emission is common in Seyfert galaxies and is attributed to fluorescence in an accretion disk rotating around a central black hole. Unlike the Seyferts, however, the best-fit energy of the emission line in PG 1116+215 is higher than the 6.4 keV expected of neutral material. This implies that the accretion disk in this source is ionized. This may be expected, as the high ratio of UV/X-ray luminosity of this source indicates that it is radiating at a substantial fraction of the Eddington limit.
